About

About Dr. Alexis Sanders

I started my career path as a sociology major at Bowling Green State University. With only one class short of a B.A. degree in Sociology, I transferred to Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. At that time I changed my major to psychology, as it appeared to be a better fit to my long-term career goals. After graduating with a B.S. degree in Psychology, I entered graduate school at the University of Cincinnati, where I earned my M.A. degree and Ph.D. in Psychology with a Clinical Emphasis. Academically, my studies focused on working with a variety of populations as well as training and research with multicultural issues. I completed my clinical internship at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute (aka “Bull Street”) in Columbia, SC.

My clinical training has included working with children and adults with a multitude of clinical presentations including severe mental illness, PTSD, situations involving abuse, neglect, and home removal, and forensic populations. I have trained and worked in a variety of clinical settings including college counseling centers, inpatient psychiatric facilities for both children, adults, and forensic populations, juvenile justice facilities, and assessment centers. Although I enjoy working with a wide variety of patient populations, I have special interests and training in forensic work, multicultural issues, neurocognitive/behavioral issues, differential diagnosis, and severe mental illness. Always up for a good challenge, I conduct a variety of psychological evaluations for adults and children. A native of Cincinnati, OH (Who Dey Nation!), I have resided in Florence, SC since 2011 and will be opening a new office in Simpsonville, SC in May 2023.
